''Indian OS'' DRDO Introducing it's own Operating System to strengthen cyber Security

,

India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Developing Country's own Operating System, which is likely to be ready in next three years.
"One of the major elements of cyber security is having our own operating system because today we are dependent on all OS systems which are imported whether it is based on Windows, Linux which is likely to be having malicious worms/things and hence it is essential that we have our own OS," Saraswat, DRDO Director-General said.
Saraswat said 150 engineers were working across the country on creating Indian OS, and added it will take at least three more years for getting the Indian OS ready and also said "It is our Indian effort...we are not having any foreign involvement in this,"

Defence researchers and scientists should start working together with industry and DRDO and other scientific departments and bring country's own operating system soon, so that "we are independent from what is coming from outside world," he stressed.

Earlier, speaking at the event, he said cyber security networking was very important today in view of everything being network centric and on Information Technology.
-->
"We are having high speed communication across the nodes and we are passing information which is very very critical for our security, safety and economic security," he said.

Saraswat said, "Cyber security requires two elements of having our own hardware and our own software. Country needs to go in a big way in this regard."

BlackBerry security not compromised in India:RIM

,
RIM refuted on Wednesday a new round of Indian media reports, which claim that the BlackBerry maker has granted the government the encryption keys to its secure corporate email and messaging services.
RIM has been grappling with the government for couple of years, reiterated that it cannot provide access to its enterprise email and messaging services as the company itself does not possess the encryption keys for the same and these remain in the control of its corporate clients

"RIM is providing an appropriate lawful access solution that enables India's telecom operators to be legally compliant with respect to their BlackBerry consumer traffic, to the same degree as other smartphone providers in India, but this does not extend to secure BlackBerry enterprise communications," said Waterloo, Ontario-based RIM in a statement.

RIM gave India access to its services, including BBM services, in January last year after authorities raised security concerns, but said it could not allow monitoring of its enterprise email.

The Indian government is fearful that encrypted BlackBerry services could be used to allow terrorists to organize or carry out attacks.

RIM services are Secure and Encrypted:David Paterson(RIM's head of government relations)

''The fact is that BlackBerry enterprise communications in India remain secure and encrypted. No change has been made or ever can be made in India"

RIM has also faced similar political pressures in the Middle East countries.RIM also blocked pornographic sites on its browsers in Indonesia last year due to government pressure.
